Dave Peterson has been a very great help to me with all my Macintosh needs. His knowledge is deep and wide ranging, so he is skilled at both teaching and troubleshooting. When I moved to Berkeley several years ago I was truly glad to find that Dave's skills were superior to help I had had in other cities.
One big plus is that Dave is responsive to my pace and my wishes. It is rare to find someone so patient, and this is important in a field that is highly technical and ever-changing. He eagerly accepts a challenge and persists until he has the answer.
I like working with Dave. He is a Macintosh expert first of all, but in addition he is approachable and accommodating and I trust him completely.

Re: Recommendation Letter for Dave Peterson
To whom it may concern:
I'm writing to praise the computer skills of Dave Peterson, who worked at the Energy Foundation for five years.
The Energy Foundation <www.ef.org> is an international grant making organization with Macintosh-based computer systems in our San Francisco headquarters and PC computers in our Beijing China offices.
From 3/2000 to 3/2005, Dave worked three days per week as our IT specialist. Dave performed both regular installations, maintenance, and upgrades as well as serving as a "troubleshooter" and fast-response desktop support specialist.
He also covered server maintenance, including our main fileserver, our database server, and our calendar server, including IT procurement support for hardware and software procurements.
I commend Dave's work. He was smart, dependable, and great to work with. He will be an asset to any IT project or team.
Don't hesitate to call or email if I can provide more details.
Sincerely,
Eric Heitz
President

For anyone seeking help, knowledge or inspiration for anything
to do with their Mac, be it hardware or software,
I strongly recommend Dave Peterson. His knowledge is vast,
and coupled with a great sense of humor and a zen-like
patience, Dave is a joy to work with.

Dave is highly transparent: what you ask for is what you get. And, if not,
you'll know why in a clear, full explanation. Dave even has visual aids to make
the most arcane computer information easy to understand. Good advice, good
service. Stop banging your head against the wall (and your computer!) and call
Dave for support.

After many years of struggling with computer frustrations, I finally have discovered a person who was the panacea to my problems. Dave Peterson, of Mac and More, in just a few hours, was able to help me with a long list of computer "nightmares" that had been haunting me for years. He has a special talent for making what seems complicated become simple, and almost easy! I only wish I had found him years before. It is now a actually a delight to work on my computer. Things that didn't work before now work very smoothly and effortlessly, without any headaches. As I have often told him, he is better than Christmas! I wish I had found him years before, and can highly recommend him. He has made my computer life non stressful, more productive, and even fun. He has ALL the answers to computer woes, and de-stressing computer life. Thank you Dave!!!

THE BELOW ARE FROM MY YEARS LIVING IN TOKYO, JAPAN

I met Dave when I was looking for
someone to teach me how to use a Macintosh computer.
Dave's knowledge was encyclopedic and he's a very patient
teacher. Since then, Dave's has been the one whom I turn
to when I need a understandable answer. In all my
dealings with Dave, I always found him to be very honest
and conscientious. I'm sure that Dave will be a great
asset to any future endeavor that he takes part
in.

Dave Peterson helped me use and
maintain my Macintosh computer at my residence in Tokyo
on various occasions from 1995 through 1998. He was
always prepared, on time, patient and able to help me
with my computer needs. These included layout of an "alternative" reference guide (sold in bookstores around
Tokyo), a customized "name and address" database, annual
New Year's cards, Internet hookup and instruction, and
system troubleshooting, among others.
I even contracted Dave's services to
find a band to play for my husband's fortieth birthday
party. He played guitar in the band and the party was a
great success!
I have recommended him to several
friends of mine and they have all been happy with his
services.

David Peterson contributed a lot
indeed to International Department of Janome Sewing
Machine Co., Ltd. In Tokyo, Japan while he worked with us
for about 10 years.
Originally his duty was rewriting of
our English correspondence, speeches, agreements, etc. In
this field his excellent knowledge of English grammar and
composition, helped us make good and effective documents.
He taught about 10 English beginners of the department in
a small class about business conversation and business
writing.
In these 5 years our business
environment changed much because of popularization of
home computer. We asked David to make Janome Homepage
utilizing his knowledge of Macintosh computer. Thanks to
his devoted efforts we were one of the earliest in the
industry to have the homepage.
He was involved in making promotional
videos and CD-ROMs for our products Including sewing
machine and industrial equipment. Here again his
knowledge and technique of computer helped making quality
CD-ROM programs.
It is almost 20 years since
computerization started in the household sewing machine
industry. And in the recent years the top of the line
sewing machine models are more or less peripherals of
home computers. They embroider, and to supply embroidery
designs to the machine, scanner, digitizer and designing
software are supplied together with the sewing machine.
David's professional knowledge about computer technique
and terminology made it easier for us to translate
Japanese manuals into English.
He is friendly and after the work we
sometimes dined together. One day we walked for almost an
hour looking for a restaurant. This is now a pleasant
memory.
Judging from what he did for us, we
trust David can be an asset to a company for his
professional knowledge and dedication.

[ Though he requested I not post
his letter online, a copy of a reference letter from
Koichi Seki, president of Janome Sewing Machine Co., Ltd.
will be provided on request. (His letter is very similar
to Mr. Ogino's, above.) ]

Every few weeks for a year or so, Dave
helped me with various computer problems at my home in
Shibuya, Tokyo. I do business consulting for a firm based
in Hong Kong and mainly use Microsoft Word and Excel to
create tables and spreadsheets which then had to be faxed
or e-mailed to my client. Dave helped me open documents
which were made with Windows on my Mac and to save files
in a format that my clients could open on the
PCs.
In the end I had decided to upgrade to
a Windows machine as my outdated Mac laptop was
increasingly having compatibility problems. At that
point, my consulting arrangements with Dave had to be
terminated. However, Dave was always patient and listened
carefully to try to solve whatever problem I was facing.
He was prompt, friendly and hardworking. I had
recommended his service to other Mac users in Tokyo as I
felt his service was invaluable for someone like myself
who worked from home and could not deal with computer
problems on my own.

I saw Dave's ad in the Tokyo
Classified and needed to learn how to use my Mac
PowerBook, so I gave him a call. He helped me install the
software necessary for connecting to the Internet and
suggested an Internet Provider. I went to his place for
lessons on how to create documents for my art
business.
Dave has a strong interest in and a
vast knowledge about computers and is able to convey that
information in a way that is easy to understand. In
short, he was an excellent teacher and he really helped
me learn how to use my computer.
I believe he would be an asset to any
company employing him in the computer field. We became
friends, and I met other people interested in computers
at the B.B.Q. events Dave hosted.

Dave and I came to Japan around the
same time in 1989. We shared a room together in an
apartment where many other foreign language teachers
lived named Friendship House and we also went to the same
Japanese language school.
About five years ago, Dave gave me a
demonstration of his Macintosh computer. I was very
interested, so he started teaching me how to use it. When
he came to our place for a lesson, he would sometimes
also help my wife, a Hong Kong native, with English
grammar and usage questions so she could improve the
lessons she designed for her Japanese English
students.
Though I started out a complete
beginner, I now own a couple of Macs and use them all the
time for business and personal projects.

I have known David Peterson over the
last five years, and have found him to be a personable,
reliable, dependable person. In my experiences with
David, he has always shown up for appointments on time,
and performed the tasks he committed to. His personality
is stable and mature, and he's often offered to give his
time and efforts to help friends and colleagues. I
recommend him for any position he feels he is suited for,
and would be happy for you to contact me so I can
verbally confirm the above.

I had the good fortune of meeting
David in 1998 and was interested to hear that he had
worked in Japan for 10 years as I had. He has all the
qualities any employer hopes for: punctuality, a work
ethic, fresh ideas and also he is friendly.

I was referred to Dave by Lucy Fujii.
He helped me get online and set up an e-mail account. We
also went together to a music store and bought some MIDI
(Musical Instrument Digital Interface) equipment, such as
a keyboard, interface box and synthesizer module. I'm now
able to use the Performer sequencing software to record
basic compositions. We also spent some time with
ClarisWorks to print and fax letters from the computer,
making maps and so forth. Dave was always on time and
able to accommodate my busy schedule.

Dave Peterson is a man of many talents
and significant creativity. Putting this together with
his ability to work long and hard on projects that
challenge me make him an excellent prospect for
employment. I found Dave to be a loyal friend, a
thoughtful person who values people with different
experiences and demonstrates the flexibility to work in
difficult situations. His ability in Japanese gives him a
unique asset that few people in this country
have.
Hire him if you get a
chance!
